"Ask a Black Girl" Event

Awaken is an African American female empowerment group at HHS. We pride ourselves on motivating and inspiring young females and enhancing their knowledge and understanding of African American culture. In this club, we have essential discussions on African American culture, history and society. This club focuses on developing and strengthening strong self-love for ourselves; as well as love for our neighbors.

Ask A Black Girl is an event that Awaken is proud to hold every year. This is our second time having this event, and this year was better than ever. At this event we encourage students at Hoover High to ask our panel of African American female students questions. Topics include: hair, politics, stereotypes/community, and pop culture. The goal of this event was to spread awareness of African American culture, break stereotypes, create community, and uplift the diverse groups at Hoover High. Here is a link that was shared with all students explaining the event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OMS-pwlZDY
