ACT Results: Continued Area of Strength for HCS Students


HOOVER
 - Hoover City School District scored higher than the state average on every ACT test and, as a result, higher on the composite (overall) score. 

The state composite score is 18.9; HCS composite score is 22.5.  HCS retained its same score from 2018 to 2019 in Math with a score of 21.5.  English increased by 0.2 (from 22.6 to 22.8) and Reading (from 22.7 to 22.9).  HCS increased in Science by 0.1 (from 22.1 to 22.2).  The district composite score increased by 0.1 from 22.4 to 22.5.
 
The percent of HCS ACT-tested students ready for college-level coursework:

College English 74%
College Algebra 47%
College Social Science 55%
College Biology 49%

Students demonstrating college readiness in all four subjects: 37%
 
"All of this information is important as we continue to determine next steps, best practices, and preparation of all students for college and career," Superintendent Dr. Kathy Murphy said. "We have multiple opportunities before us, but I commend all of you for the role you play in preparing our students for the future."
