Essential 55 Initiative
22 August 2019
(BPES)- Over the summer, Bluff Park Elementary School faculty and staff participated in a school-wide book study of The Essential 55 by Ron Clark. The purpose of the book study was to continue to set all students up for success, both academically and through life skills. We want to be specific and intentional about our expectations and ensure that all faculty and staff are "on the same page." Although all 55 expectations within the book are important and will be taught to BP students, as a staff we have developed what we call The 12 Bluff Park Basics.
Rule 1: Always be honest and respect others' comments, opinions, and ideas.
Rule 2: When meeting new people, shake hands and repeat their name.
Rule 3: Make eye contact when someone is speaking.
Rule 4: Respond to adults with "yes ma'am" or "no sir."
Rule 5: Always say thank you when given something.
Rule 6: Do not show disrespect with gestures.
Rule 7: Follow classroom procedures. Be organized, efficient, and on task.
Rule 8: Be swift, quiet, and orderly during transitions.
Rule 9: Be humble and kind. Hold the door for others, pick up something if it is dropped, say excuse me if you bump into someone and take all opportunities to perform random acts of kindness.
Rule 10: Do your best to better yourself, not get a reward.
Rule 11: Learn from your mistakes and move on.
Rule 12: Be the best person you can be!
We're excited to invite all of our BP families to JOIN US on this Essential 55 journey! Although we do not promote Amazon, they do have the book and ebook on sale if you are interested in following along!
Stay tuned for more information on how The Essential 55 will be incorporated into the 2019-2020 school year and how you can help your student implement these same expectations at home!
