(Hoover, AL) –  Spain Park High School (SPHS) is proud to announce its inclusion in the 2023 Advanced Placement Program (AP) School Honor Roll, receiving recognition for its outstanding commitment to delivering results for students while expanding access to AP programs. The College Board announced that SPHS earned the Silver distinction on the AP School Honor Roll for the 2022-2023 school year. 

A coveted spot on the AP School Honor Roll is awarded annually to schools that exemplify dedication to cultivating a college-going culture, offer students opportunities to earn college credit, and enhance overall college readiness. The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. AP represents an opportunity for students to stand out to colleges, earn college credit and placement, and potentially boost their grade point averages. 

SPHS AP Coordinator Jim Reinsch said, "As AP Coordinator of Spain Park High School, I am extremely proud of the accomplishment of our AP students and teachers in attaining Silver recognition on the 2023 AP School Honor Roll. Three criteria are used by the College Board to determine this recognition - College Culture, College Credit, and College Optimization. Spain Park achieved Silver for College Culture and College Optimization and Gold for College Credit. Go Jags!"

For the 2022-2023 school year, SPHS had 51% of seniors who took at least one AP exam during high school, 40% of seniors scoring a three or higher on at least one AP exam, and 9% of seniors who took five or more AP exams.

• 41 Sections Taught

• 19 Instructors Teaching AP Courses

According to the College Board, research shows that students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. The students who enter four-year colleges with credits from AP accelerate their path to graduation and build confidence for college success. College Board officials say even for those who don’t earn college credit, AP coursework provides early exposure to college-level work and contributes to a college-going school culture.

The AP School Honor Roll serves as a testament to SPHS’s commitment to providing students with an exceptional education that prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of higher education. By offering rigorous AP courses and ensuring equitable access, the school has demonstrated its dedication to academic excellence.
