August 31, 2023
(Hoover, AL) - The Hoover City Schools (HCS) District is celebrating an accomplishment that speaks volumes for the District's commitment to striving for excellence. HCS has once again secured a coveted spot on Forbes' annual list of America's Best Employers By State, ranking at an impressive 14th. This recognition, which marks the school district's second appearance (in a row) on the list, underscores our unwavering commitment to providing an exceptional working environment for all employees.
In collaboration with renowned market research firm Statista, Forbes undertook an extensive survey involving 70,000 workers across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. HCS ranked #14 on a list of 44 employers in Alabama. Superintendent Dr. Dee O. Fowler says he appreciates all HCS employees who contribute to the District's success and make it the best place to work.
"We are tremendously proud and honored to be named among the best employers in the nation by Forbes for the second time,” said Dr. Fowler. “The Board, all employees, students, city leaders, and the community work collaboratively to make Hoover City Schools a great place to work. This recognition speaks to the commitment of Hoover City Schools in not only delivering quality education to its students but also in fostering an ideal workplace culture for all employees,” added Dr. Fowler.
According to Forbes, participants in the survey were asked about their willingness to recommend their respective employers to others and to assess their employers based on a range of criteria, including working conditions, diversity, compensation packages, opportunities for professional growth, company reputation, and more. The survey recognized 1,392 organizations, with 269 earning spots in multiple states, including businesses such as Apple and J.P. Morgan Chase.
Established in 1987, HCS has 1,850 employees with a K-12 student population of 13,172 and 233 Pre-K students. There are 17 schools in the district, including a career training facility (Riverchase Career Connection Center or RC3). The District encourages a collaborative and professional working environment, resulting in high student achievement, professional growth opportunities, and innovative practices to support teaching and learning.
The Executive Director of Human Resources, Kristi Williams, says HCS prides itself on hiring and retaining high-quality employees in a collaborative and professional environment where everyone is valued.
Williams said, "This achievement is a testament to our dedicated educators, administrators, and support staff who work tirelessly to provide an outstanding learning experience for our students while maintaining an enriching workplace for themselves. As the Hoover City Schools District celebrates this remarkable achievement, the district remains dedicated to fostering an exceptional work environment where employees thrive, feel appreciated, and are supported. I’m thankful for our superintendent, Dr. Fowler, and the Hoover Board of Education, who work hard to provide the vision and leadership for our District.”
As the District celebrates this accomplishment, leaders remain dedicated to upholding the high standards that have earned the District a place among the best employers in the nation. The ongoing collaboration between the various stakeholders within HCS will continue to contribute to the District's success as an exceptional workplace.
