(Hoover, AL) - The Hoover City Schools District is celebrating three schools that are on the list of Top 25 schools recognized by the Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) for exemplary achievements on the 2022-2023 State Report Card. Among those honored, the following schools in the District secured places in the prestigious Top 25 category: Bluff Park Elementary, Deer Valley Elementary, and Greystone Elementary Schools. The schools demonstrated outstanding academic excellence and commitment to student success and earned well-deserved recognition from the ALSDE.

Deer Valley Elementary made the Top 25 list last year, and Principal Nicole Stokes says it’s an honor to be named among the Top 25 schools again.  Stokes says this year means more as it further confirms the work teachers and staff are doing for students each day.

Stokes said, "Despite our success during the 2021-2022 school year, we did not rest on our laurels. We kept the main thing the main thing (teaching and learning), and this recognition celebrates and honors that. While it would seem self-serving to say, "I expected this," the truth of the matter is, that I have the honor of walking into a building each day filled with people who are committed to living out and fulfilling our school mission " equip and empower students to become confident lifelong learners who will positively impact the world."

Dr. Stacey Stocks, principal of Greystone Elementary, shared her sentiments of pride and gratitude for being recognized as one of the Top 25 schools in the state. She says she’s thrilled to be recognized on this level, and Greystone Elementary is worthy of such an outstanding acknowledgment.

“As principal, I am like a proud parent,” said Dr. Stocks. “I strive to push and encourage my teachers to constantly do what is best for our students.  Our teachers and staff find ways to engage our students in learning in very intentional and meaningful ways.  Our students come to school ready and willing to learn.  Serving the teachers and families of Greystone is extremely rewarding for me as principal, and this recognition affirms all we are working toward as we live our school motto to "Learn, Lead, and Leave a Legacy."

Ami Weems, principal of Bluff Park Elementary, says she is filled with overwhelming pride for her school. Weems says she has the unique opportunity of watching the magic unfold day after day at Bluff Park, and now it is being showcased on a greater platform.

Weems says, “Our success begins with building relationships with the students and families we serve. These relationships are just as important as the standards we teach. We are compassionate and empathetic and believe in keeping an open line of communication with all of our stakeholders. We have high expectations for all, and building relationships first paves the way to set students up for success.”

Through the Legislative School Performance Recognition Program, a total of fifty schools were commended for their remarkable success on the 2022-2023 state report card, with accolades conferred in two distinguished categories: the top 25 schools and the 25 most improved.

The ALSDE recognized the schools at its February State Board meeting on Thursday, February 8. Schools acknowledged in the Top 25 category will receive a $2,000 cash award each in recognition of their exceptional performance and dedication to educational excellence.

The recognition bestowed upon Bluff Park Elementary, Deer Valley Elementary, and Greystone Elementary Schools exemplifies the unwavering commitment to academic excellence. HCS leaders congratulate the schools for their innovative teaching practices, dedicated leadership and staff, and steadfast focus on student achievement.
