The Advanced Placement program is a nationally recognized program sponsored by The College Board which enables students to complete college level studies while still in high school and to obtain college placement credit on the basis of their performance on rigorous Advanced Placement examinations. Participation in Advanced Placement programs is often used as one of the criteria for academic scholarship and acceptance into many highly selective colleges. Advanced Placement courses are offered across the curriculum and students can pick and choose specific areas of interest in which to challenge themselves.

Generally, all Advanced Placement Courses carry an examination fee for students to potentially obtain college credit, but some AP courses also carry a lab or material fee. (Note:  Fee assistance may be  available for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch status.) Any student enrolled in an AP class will be required to take the AP exam in May of that year. All AP courses carry an additional grade weight of +1.00 quality point. Interested students should ask the counselors or AP teachers for more information. Requests to drop an AP class if a student is failing may be considered on an individual basis, based on teacher recommendation and administrator approval. However, changes are not guaranteed.
