What Types of Programs Are Offered?
The Bumpus Middle School Counseling Program is designed to focus on increasing academic performance, preparing each student to be college and career ready, and creating a positive school climate. School-wide programs focus on Bully Prevention and Character Education. Grade level programs focus on college and career awareness, study skills, goal setting, and time management.
In addition, Hoover City Schools is partnering with IMPACT Family Counseling to provide the Family Strengthening Program. This program will be offered for free to families with students in grades 6-8. The program consists of one evening session each week for six weeks total and will be offered multiple times throughout the school year. These sessions can be virtual or in-person with trained mental health counselors from IMPACT Family Counseling. Topics include communication, healthy boundaries, substance use, and other topics related to building healthy relationships. If you are interested in participating or learning more about this opportunity, please contact your child's counselor.
How Does A Student See The Counselor?
Students can see their grade level counselor in any of the following ways: self-referral, the request of the counselor, parent request, administrator referral, teacher referral, or referral by friends.
What Services Are Offered?
Students may see their grade level counselor for small group and individual counseling to assist them with a variety of concerns and problems including: conflict resolution, academic improvement, friendship, divorce, grief and loss, and crisis intervention.
Parents are welcome to call or email their child’s grade level counselor at any time to set up a meeting or discuss academic, social, or personal concerns. Your child's counselor can also help to arrange parent-teacher conferences as well as provide outside referrals for intervention.
The school's district mental health counselor, Ms. Lauren Padalino, is also on-staff at Bumpus to provide behavioral support. She is able to provide individual and group intervention for students who exhibit more severe behaviors. If you have a child that you feel needs to see Ms. Padalino, please click here to email her or you may reach her at (205) 439-2226.
