Dr. Tamala Maddox - Principal
Dr. Tamala Maddox is the principal of R. F. Bumpus Middle School. Originally from Columbus, GA, she has been a resident of Hoover more than a decade. Prior to her 2011 appointment as principal, Dr. Maddox was an assistant principal at Bumpus for eight years and a mathematics teacher for thirteen years. She earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from Auburn University in Secondary Mathematics Education. She obtained her administrative certification was through the University of Montevallo in 2003. She completed work on her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership in 2011 at UAB.
As principal of Bumpus, Dr. Maddox makes decisions on a daily basis that support her belief that “No significant learning can occur without significant relationships” - a quote she lives by from Dr. James P. Comer. To that end, she provides numerous opportunities throughout the school day for her teachers and students to connect. Tamala has been on the Executive Board of AAMSP (Alabama Association of Middle School Principals) since 2007. She served as Treasurer for five years before becoming Vice-President, then President-Elect. Dr. Maddox has also served as President-Elect and President of CLAS (Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools). She and her husband have three daughters.
