13-Sept-2017 (HCS) - Sixteen students from Hoover City Schools have been named Semifinalists in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.  The announcement was made September 13 by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).  NMSC honors individual students who show exceptional academic ability and potential for success in rigorous college studies.  

This is the 63rd year that the not-for-profit organization has recognized student success.  More than 16,000 students nationally qualified as 2018 Semifinalists.  In this position, students will continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $32 million.
HCS students include: Rishik Hombal, Andy Kong, Austin Blanton, Conor Flannelly, Emily SuAreebah Nur, and Sydney Biswal (Hoover High School); Katherine Voorhees, Katherine Turnbull, Woody Shin, William Lamb, Ryan Smith, Reece Eberhardt, Elijah McKinley, Madison Todd, and Jennifer Spell (Spain Park High School).
