20-January-2017 (GWIN) - Gwin Elementary School held its annual International Day on January 20.  This year’s theme: Asia.

Hundreds packed the Gwin Elementary gymnasium to take part in the approximately one-hour opening ceremony, which included a parade of nations.  Students comprise this particular parade, representing their countries of heritage with their native flags.  For 2017, more than 40 different countries were represented in the parade of nations.

Other highlights of the opening ceremonies included special dances, recognition of special guests and a $2,000.00 check presentation to local non-profit Neverthirst - money raised by Gwin Elementary School students, faculty and staff.

After the opening ceremonies, students fanned out by grade level into different areas of the school to engage in other cultural activities as a part of International Day.  These activities included food tastings, art and extracurricular cultural activities.

Teachers Rebecca Salas and Wendy McBride head up the International Day Committee, along with the direction of Principal Dr. Kimberly White and Assistant Principal Mrs. Amy Gregory.
