(HCS) - Hoover City Schools and the U.S. Department of Justice plan to ask a federal judge to OK a rezoning plan recently approved by the school board.

The Hoover City Board of Education unanimously approved a revised rezoning plan during a meeting Monday night. The update includes several changes that will be implemented in the 2016-2017 school year.

"I realize that this plan does not meet the satisfaction of all in our community, and I do regret that there is no perfect plan," Superintendent Kathy Murphy said. "But I give you a plan which is substantive with a transparent process that went along with it, is inclusive of much of the feedback that came from our community, and a plan which has been agreed upon by the Department of Justice and the Legal Defense Fund."
