HOOVER, AL (WBRC) -Hoover parents have had a week to consider the details of the school rezoning plan. Thursday night, they will get the chance to offer public feedback.

A full house is expected when Hoover City Schools hold the first of four community meetings to discuss Superintendent Dr. Kathy Murphy’s proposal to redraw school districts. The meeting is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brock's Gap Intermediate School in the lunchroom.

Under the proposal, Brock’s Gap Intermediate, currently serving grades 5-6, would serve grades 3-5 in the South Shades Crest Elementary School zone.

South Shades Crest, currently a K-4, would serve K-2.

The overall proposal would create changes for more than 2,500 students. Many parents of The Preserve neighborhood near Gwin Elementary School have protested changes that would send their children to Trace Crossings Elementary. The proposal is not final until community feedback is complete. Dr. Murphy has indicated she would like to submit a recommendation to the Hoover school board early next month.
