"Let's Keep Talking" Parent Night - October 20 back button

01-October-2015 (HCS) - Student anxiety.  Substance abuse trends.  College readiness.  Peer aggression/bullying.  Social media/digital ethics.  These topics and more will form Hoover City Schools' upcoming "Let's Keep Talking" Parent Night on Tuesday, October 20.

District counselors and interventionists surveyed Hoover parents, receiving more than 1,500 responses, to help devise topics of interest for the "Let's Keep Talking" night.  The evening will feature expert panelists and educators who will help guide parents on a variety of fluid and sensitive topics.  Angela Camp, the National Coordinator of Adolescent Marketing, will serve as our keynote speaker for the evening with a presentation titled Parenting with Purpose: Building Resilient Families.

"We are so pleased to be able to offer such valuable information from speakers that are dynamic and experts in their fields.  The information will equip parents with just what they need to talk with their children about some very timely topics. This will be a very educational night for parents -- a great investment of their time," Marion Kellough, Hoover City Schools District Intervention Counselor, said.

As mentioned above, topics will range from helping students cope with emotional issues to current drug trends.  Panelists include Cindy Bond, Hoover High School College and Career Specialist; Natalie Noble, HCS Career Coach; Angela Camp, MA, Bradford Health Services; Jeff Richardson, HCS Instructional Technology Coach; Alice Churnock, LPC, Covenant Counseling Center; Katie Smith, LCSW, HHS Student Assistance Counselor; and Margaret Kneisley, EdD, BMS Assistant Principal.

"Let's Keep Talking" is open to all Hoover City Schools parents.  It begins at 6:00 p.m. and will run until 8:00 p.m. at Hoover City Schools' Crossroads School/Old Berry High School, 2826 Columbiana Road, 35216.  Childcare will be provided and organizers ask that you RSVP by visiting this website: http://bit.ly/1JACJrj
