17-March-2015 (HHS) - The Hoover High School Marching Band played an arrangement of the popular tune, “New York, New York”, to tens of thousands of onlookers in New York City March 17 as part of the Big Apple’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade. In all, 210 band members made the trek to New York City to march in the parade, which is a two-mile route. The group drove up over the weekend and toured the city on Sunday.

Month of practice went into this performance, according to Hoover High School Director of Bands, Mr. Ryan Fitchpatrick.

“The band did a fine job and got a great reception from the crowd,” Fitchpatrick said. “We had a lot of great work from the parents. They have been tremendously supportive.”

Hoover High School’s band was selected to march in the parade following a highly competitive selection process last fall by parade organizers. The band had four large fundraisers this school year as well as private contributions to help fund their appearance in New York’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
