The Hoover City Board of Education appointed Dr. Jim Reese as the Interim Superintendent for Hoover City Schools effective January 1, 2015 in a special called meeting today.

Reese led Enterprise City Schools as Superintendent for nine years before retiring three years ago.

Board President Mrs. Donna Frazier tasked board member Mr. Earl Cooper with leading the five-member Board of Education in finding an interim Superintendent.  Reese replaces Superintendent Mr. Andy Craig, who accepted a position with the State Department of Education effective January 2015.

“Ultimately our goal was to find someone the Board felt would be the best available person to meet the current leadership needs of the district and someone who would sustain our momentum and reputation as a leading school district,” Mr. Cooper said

Cooper says the process involved meeting potential applicants to convey the Board’s expectation for the school system; gauge how interested and available the potential applicants were; and to assess whether their management style would assure a smooth transition.  Efforts were made to review their previous work experiences, and search out opinions and impressions of other leaders involved in education to determine who would be the best fit for our school system at this point in time.

Reese joins Hoover City Schools effectively immediately and will oversee his first Board of Education meeting January 12.  The Hoover City Board of Education will continue its search for a permanent replacement.
