03-08-2014 (HCS) - Brock's Gap Intermediate School student Josephine Kim placed 4th in the Alabama State Spelling Bee Competition held Saturday, March 8, in Shelby County.

Josephine, who won both the Hoover City Schools and Jefferson County spelling bees to advance to the state level, has made the Brock's Gap Intermediate School Voyager 6 Team very proud with her 4th place finish and her prior successes.  The team on March 5 held a "Pre-State Spelling Bee Party" to celebrate her spelling prowess.  According to teacher Leigh Ann Roe, the "bee-themed" celebration was a huge success.

"Voyagers celebrated all day by wearing yellow/black, listening to “Flight of the Bumbles," watching the trailer for Akeelah & the Bee and enjoyed “bee-themed” healthy snacks that included: Honey Nut Cheerios, Alphabits cereal, Honey Buns, Cheez-It Scrabble, Spring Oreos and Bit-'O-Honey," Roe said.

Students made signs and cards to wish Josephine good luck as she prepared for her big appearance on March 8.  Learn more about the rules and regulations of the Alabama Spelling Bee by clicking here.
