Gwin Unicyclists Wow Basketball Crowd back button

From AL.com

27-Jan-14 (GWIN) - Imagine how hard it is for a 10-year-old child to score a basketball goal in front of a large crowd at a college basketball arena. Imagine making the goal while riding a unicycle.

Kid after kid made their shots at Samford University's Pete Hanna Center Saturday.

The Gwin Elementary School Unicycle Team from Hoover entertained the crowd of the Elon vs. Samford basketball game that Samford won 62-59.

About 25 third, fourth and fifth graders circled the court on their single-wheel cycles waving flags. Then they paired up, held hands and rode tight circles at center court. The finale was each child riding the length of the court taking a shot at the basketball goal with most sinking the basket. Two boys attempted the feat on unicycles that were taller than they stand.

The cyclists wore safety helmets and t-shirts that said "THIS IS HOW WE ROLL."

The unicycle team, which is coached by teacher Robin McMahan, has been in existence for several years. Team members perform at several events each year including basketball games at Hoover High School, Samford and the University of Alabama.
