05-22-2012 (HCS) – The Class of 2012 walked the stage this week and did so with some impressive stats. Among the 900+ combined  graduates from the system’s two high schools (585 Hoover High School, 354 Spain Park High School), students were offered nearly $50,000,000 in college scholarships this spring and will be headed to institutions of higher learning world-wide.

Crossroads School kicked off Graduation Week with a ceremony May 22. Spain Park High School’s graduation ceremony followed May 23 at Samford University.  Hoover High School’s graduation ceremony rounded out the week at UAB's Bartow Arena on May 24.  Consider the Class of 2012's accomplishments:

Valedictorian: Susmita Murthy
Salutatorian: Joshua Ng
Percent of class offered scholarship: 47%
Amount offered: $35.3 million
Amount accepted: $22.1 million
Class of 2012 was accepted to 188 colleges world-wide including US, Canada, Mexico, and Germany
5 national merit finalists
1 National Achievement Finalist
1 National Hispanic Recognition Finalist
2 Early Medical School Acceptances
1 acceptance to IBCE at University of South Carolina Mandarin Chinese Program
5 athletic state championships (4 of those are the women’s teams)
1 scholars bowl state championship
2 military academy appointments, Air Force Academy and Merchant Marine Academy
2 full ROTC scholarships from Naval ROTC marine option and Army ROTC

Percent of class offered scholarship: 50%
Percent of class attending 4 year schools: 88%
Percent of class attending 2 year schools: 9%

Amount offered: $14.1 million
Amount accepted: $6.1 million
Class of 2012 was accepted to 100+ colleges in 23 states, 3 countries
