Former U.S. Secretary of State and current Stanford University professor Dr. Condoleezza Rice made an appearance at Spain Park High School April 18, culminating a study on her incredible career as an international political figure and native daughter of Birmingham.

Dozens of dignitaries were on hand for Wednesday's culminating event from the local, city and state level. Dr. Rice was introduced by her childhood friend, Birmingham City Councilor Mrs. Carole Smitherman.

A grant courtesy of the Daniel Foundation provided students grades 9-12 copies of Dr. Rice’s book, Extraordinary, Ordinary People: A Memoir of Family. Coordinated through the school’s media center/Mr. Casey Middlebrooks, Spain Park High School spent much of its spring semester studying the memoir, engaging the students in group and class discussions surrounding Dr. Rice’s life as revealed in Extraordinary, Ordinary People: A Memoir of Family.

Dr. Rice’s appearance included a faculty question-and-answer session, a school-wide student assembly and a smaller question-and-answer session with select students.   See media coverage below:
