HCS Green City Robotics Challenge back button

(HCS) – Students from across Hoover City Schools converged on the campus of Riverchase Elementary School February 4 for the second of three district-wide elementary robotics competitions for the 2011-12 school year.

The HCS Lego Green City Challenge included Riverchase Elementary, Deer Valley Elementary, Rocky Ridge Elementary and Brock’s Gap Intermediate School teams.

Built by students with teacher guidance, these Lego robots employ various sensors – the light sensor, touch sensor and ultrasonic (distance) sensor. Movements include moving forward, backward, turning left and right, and turning in circles and stopping at specific places. Teams attempt challenges a maximum of three times. Judges at each challenge determine the success of their attempts.

Hoover City Schools Foundation grants helped make much of this possible.

The third and final installment of elementary robotics challenges will take place Friday, May 11th 2012 at Greystone Elementary School.
