20-January-2017 (HCS) - Students Andrew Counce (R.F. Bumpus Middle School) and Stephen Duggan (Berry Middle School) emerged as the winners of the 2017 Hoover City Schools District Spelling Bee on January 19 at Hoover High School.

The winning word: “laguna.”

Counce (1st Place) and Duggan (1st Runner Up) will advance to the Jefferson County Spelling Bee in February, representing Hoover City Schools and vying for a chance to compete in the Alabama Spelling Bee in March.

More than 6,000 of Hoover City Schools’ 14,000 students participated in spelling bees this school year.  For the 2017 HCS District Spelling Bee, each HCS elementary, intermediate and middle school sent their school-based winner for competition.
