2016 August (HCS) - Hoover City Schools are looking ahead to the 2017 fiscal year budget. Tonight, superintendent Dr. Kathy Murphy made a financial presentation to the board. It showed the current debt that the system is facing, and actions being taken to reduce costs. Murphy says that more changes and reductions will need to be made.

Some of these include -- the elimination, or modification of instructional programs, consolidating bus routes, and getting more support from citizens.

"With that comes an obligation to have the finances, the physical ability to make sure we can provide those to students the education that we've all come to expect in Hoover," said Murphy.

Public hearings on the proposed budget are slated for late August, or early September. For a complete look at the budget presentation, click here.
