Hoover Schools making changes to rezoning plan

ABC 33/40 confirmed Hoover City Schools will make changes to its rezoning proposal.

School leaders met with the Department of Justice and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund just this afternoon. Superintendent Dr. Kathy Murphy says the system's rezoning plan has been in the works since June of last year.

She says parents' input was "loud and clear" during the community meetings this past month.

"We believe that we can come out of this process now with a revised plan, based on community input that makes this an even better opportunity for us," said Murphy.

Murphy says the words inconvenience, travel, and challenges kept coming up during community meetings. Those concerns helped the system advocate for changes.

"Our community has fully allowed us to have some additional leverage to come to the table and say to the other parties, here are some things our community is passionate about," Murphy explains. "We prepared some mitigation plans to say here are some plans we might integrate into this plan."
