(HOOVER) - Kelli Lane, Technology Integration Coordinator for Hoover City Schools, has been named to the executive board of the Alabama Educational Technology Association (A.E.T.A.) as vice-president of professional development.

In this newly-created role, Lane will collaborate with board colleagues and A.E.T.A. members to help further define what it means to be a school technology coordinator through specialized training and a (soon-to-be-created) credentialing process.

"We as an organization have realized that with roles such as mine, everyone comes in with different knowledge levels and different perspectives.  Some may be classroom teachers and then placed in (a technology coordinator role) the next day.  We want to work with these professionals and help them identify areas for growth," Lane said.

Lane will oversee the development of the A.E.T.A. credentialing process and present the final plan to the Alabama State Department of Education for approval.

"I think that we have seen for a while now the need to validate the hard work that a technology coordinator does.  Because every district has a different version of a 'tech coordinator,' it's hard to see exactly what that role looks like," Lane said.  "We're excited to begin this process."

Lane, now in her second year with HCS, works under the direction of Chief Technology Officer Mr. Bryan Phillips (a past member of the A.E.T.A. board) to help teachers district-wide innovate in the classroom through technology.  Prior to Hoover, she worked as a both a technology supervisor and a classroom teacher in Jefferson County Schools.

The Alabama Educational Technology Association serves as the state affiliate of the national organization I.S.T.E. - the International Society for Technology in Education, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the use of information technology to aid in learning, teaching of K-12 students and teachers.
