16-May-14 (HCS) – Paulette Pearson served 32 years as counselor for W.A. Berry High School, Hoover High School and Spain Park High School working with students and parents in choosing a college and securing scholarships. After retirement in 2003, Paulette became a board member at Aldridge Gardens where she served two full terms which included serving as president. But her service to the community was far from over. She was appointed by the Hoover City Council to the Hoover City Board of Education and [recently rolled off the Board] after serving five years. Her three degrees in Guidance and Counseling and her career as a counselor prepared her for the challenge of working with [four] other school board members, sometimes all with different opinions. She had learned communication skills, problem solving skills and to be tolerant and objective. It was as though God was equipping her along the way for this specific challenge.

Pearson was born in Athens, Georgia, on the campus of the University of Georgia. Her father, Charlie Rose, was a professor at the university and the family lived in Athens for about 8 years before moving to Alabama. She states that her father had the most influence on her becoming an educator. He had a simple philosophy and plan for life.

“Education is the key. Take as much education as you can possibly endure. This puts you in a position of being independent,” Pearson said.
