It’s hard to find someone at Spain Park High School who doesn’t know Tom Paduch. The senior baseball player known for his athleticism can also be found tinkering with robots in the school’s Engineering Academy and helping special needs students with various tasks. He also enjoys making friends with students new to the Spain Park High School community. His friends and teachers describe him as “someone who never meets a stranger” and “someone who genuinely cares for the well-being of others.”

Teachers, mentors, friends and others all weighed in on Tom’s behalf – helping him earn this year’s Finley Award for Spain Park High School. His character, integrity, spirit emerged as common themes in the various nominations, with almost everyone commenting on Tom’s commitment to his faith and family.

Regarding his faith, one nominator noted, “ From a mission trip where he does not end his ‘full-throttle’ work until told so or just the week to week commitment, Tom is a person that is naturally counted on and trusted.”

Another commented, "Tom Paduch possesses not only the tangible skill sets that we as educators are tasked to teach but also the intangible skill sets that we so often wish we could instill in young people today."

Tom is the son of Frank and Kim Paduch. After graduation he plans to Mississippi State University, studying a career in engineering.

Paduch celebrates his 2013 Finley Award alongside his Hoover High School counterpart, Hunter Gibson and HCS Finley Award Employee Winner, Mr. Jason Watson.  All three will be honored at the 2013 Finley Awards Banquet, scheduled for Thursday, March 21 at 6:00 p.m. at the Cahaba Grand Conference Center.  See more photos from the surprise ceremonies.
