Bumpus' Kenley McCombs Showcases Pool Prowess

01-31-13 (RFBMS) - Twelve-year-old Kenley McCombs is a 7th grade student at R.F. Bumpus Middle School.  As a competitive swimmer, Kenley has four years of experience under her belt. Kenley has achieved several accomplishments as a member of the Birmingham Swim League (BSL) including acting as anchor swimmer in 2011 and ranking first in nationals among 11 year olds in the Medley Relay. At the Southern Championship she was the Top 12 in the 11-and-12 year-old division.  Not only is Kenley representing BSL at all national meets; she is representing Hoover High School at all state meets.

Kenley and her BSL team are currently training with Coach Suzanne Wrighton for the Southeastern Meet in Nashville tp be held February 21-24th.

“I love swimming. It is very different from most other sports. One day I hope to get a scholarship and swim for Auburn, until then, I have my sights on the Olympic trials of 2016," Kenley said. 

During a meet at Auburn University, Kenley achieved her best personal record of 33 seconds in the 50 yard race. This record breaking time placed Kenley in fifth place at this relay. Kenley is very talented ranking first among of all other 7th graders who competed in the meet and came in first in the 100-yard free style.
