12-20-2012 (HCS)  - Hoover High School's First Edition Jazz Band made an appearance this past Tuesday at the prestigious Midwest Clinic in Chicago.  The band performed a one-hour show with guest artist and trombone player Jim Pugh.

Dozens from the Hoover community flew to the Windy City to see the performance live.

Based on its all-around excellence, the band received an invitation to participate earlier this year.  First-Edition will be only the fourth band invited from Alabama - and the only jazz band from the state of Alabama - to be chosen to perform at the Midwest Clinic, also known as the "Superbowl of Music Clinics".  The Midwest Clinic was established in 1946 and attracts more than 16,000 music educators from across the United States and around the world.  More than 80 clinicians are scheduled for the four-day event and demonstrations are provided by more than 350 exhibitors.

Sallie Vines White serves as the Director of the First Edition Jazz Band.  Ryan Fitchpatrick is Hoover High School Director of Bands and Dennis Carroll is Associate Director of Bands.
