HCS swim teams shine at state

 12-01-2012 (HCS) - Big accolades for both high schools in HCS at the recent AHSAA State Swimming and Dive Meet.  


Hoover High School:
 

  • Junior David Morton/State Champion for Diving
  • Girls 400 Free Relay (Nicole Smith, Allison Smith, Mary Claire Shingleton and Katrina Chapman) and the Boys 200 Free Relay ( Shelby Hall, Alan Parsons, Eric Byron and Myles Johnson) both received medals for 3rd place
  • Both men’s and women’s teams placed 6th overall in the State Championship Meet
  • Senior Shelby Hall made a Junior National cut and is on his way to the Junior National meet this week


Spain Park High School: 

  • Will Freeman-200 yard freestyle 1:38.22 breaking his own state record. Will is also the state champion in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:30.34
  • Corey Holmes-100 yard freestyle 45.79. Corey was also second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 21.14
  • Other notable performances include 5th place in the 200 yard freestyle relay. The team consisted of Will Freeman, Jack Zalewski, Alex Baker and Corey Holmes.
  • 5th place in the 400 yard freestyle relay. Same team in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
  • The boys were 5th in the team standings. (42 teams scored).
  • Maddie Wohlfarth is our state champion in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 57.81. Maddie was also 6th in the 200 yard individual medley. 
  • In other notable performances, Madeline Held was 4th in 50 yard freestyle 24.50 and 5th in the 100 yard freestyle 53.96. Jordan Ames was 7th in the 500 yard freestyle 5:24.75. The girls 200 yard freestyle relay was 4th with a time of 1:42.06 the team consisted of Maddie Wohlfarth, Maryellen Newton, Jessica Bilek, and Madeline Held. The 400 yard relay was 6th 3:45.60 Jordan Ames was on the team in place of Jessica Bilek.
  • The girls were 3rd in the team standings. (42 teams scored).
