10-02-2012 – (RRES) – Rocky Ridge Elementary School’s Deborah Blalock received a surprise visit today from OfficeMax, her colleagues, her principal and the media as she was awarded $1,000.00 worth of classroom supplies. This was all part of the annual OfficeMax A Day Made Better advocacy program to help erase teacher-funded classrooms. Blalock joins 1,000 teachers nominated nationally – and was put forward as a nominee based on her caring attitude, dedication to her profession and her passion for children.

ABC 33/40 covered the surprise visit and was scheduled to air the story Tuesday, October 2 on the station's Focus@Four (4:00 p.m.) newscast and possibly the evening's 6:00 p.m. broadcast.

To the average American teacher, studies have shown “back to school” means spending $1,000 out-of-pocket on essential classroom supplies. OfficeMax and AdoptAClassroom.org joined together to create A Day Made Better in an effort to help ease the financial burden for deserving teachers. Selected teachers were nominated by their colleagues for demonstrating passion, dedication and innovation in the classroom.

Since 2007, A Day Made Better and other OfficeMax Goodworks programs have contributed more than $18 million in grants and supplies to support more than 29,000 teachers and their classrooms. Additionally, through the annual event, OfficeMax has helped its nonprofit partner AdoptAClassroom.org secure funding for more than 78,000 classrooms nationwide.
